4/30 A Finish & some Friday Fabric

Can you believe that I started this quilt sometime in the first week of April and it is finished?? Me either! I finished it last night, tossed it in the wash this morning, then got it tumbling in the dryer before I took it out for pictures between raindrops. It was a little breezy too.


Then when I brought it inside it hit me. I totally forgot to label it!!! Wahhhhhh.
Thank you,Des for sharing the tutorial for that quilt. I'll be making more of these.

Now for the Friday Fabric Feature;
The sun came out so I took Nicey Jane in the backyard for a photo shoot.You'll notice in the background that we still don't have leaves on the trees and the grass is just starting to green up. These fabrics are just what this scene needed. This is what college girl has chosen for her Junior year quilt. She only wanted the blue/green/yellow colorway. No pink this time. As soon as she said which colors she was thinking about I sent images of Nicey Jane to her and she loved it too. I can't wait to get started on this one but thinking it will be sometime in June.



Next we have some Hummingbirds by Patty Young for Michael Miller, along with some Ta Dot by Michael Miller. LOVE these!


Another one I have been drooling over and anxious to get my hands on, Poppy by Laura Gunn for Michael Miller. You'll see some of the stripe off to the side there too. I do wish she would have done more coordinating prints in this colorway, like she did for the orange/blue line. Not sure of the thinking on that.


So far today I sewed up a quick fleece pillowcase type diaper changing pad for a friend. I have lots more sewing on the schedule for this evening so I'd better get a move on! So there you have it, I have done some sort of sewing every day this month! I'm so excited by this that I just might make that my goal for May as well.

Praise - For College Girl's stand on modesty at school and her willingness to be vocal about it. For my son's stand in his World Religions class. I'm so thankful for their stand on the TRUTH!

Prayers - That the editorial that College Girl has been asked to write for the school newspaper would generate some great discussion on campus and that God would use it (and her) for His glory.

4/23-4/28 Update on the weekend

I had a great trip to the big city. My friend and I chatted the entire way, stopped for lunch in a cute cafe and I worked on my Blush runner binding.

Here is the reason that I went to the big city in the first place;



Isn't she beautiful? Well I know she is, inside AND out.

It was a nice ceremony. About 48 students were inducted into the Ivy Honorary Society which is focused on Scholarship, Leadership and Service. We're so proud of you College Girl!! I'm so glad that I was able to be present at the event.

I had the wrong shoes so walking much was out of the question. We tried to view the apartment where college girl wants to live next year but despite the signs that said OPEN HOUSE, they were closed. It was such a lovely day we ate our lunch in the sunshine;


I stitched more on the binding before going to bed on Saturday and Sunday after church I sat in the sun and finished that and then started on the Verna quilt binding. Such a relaxed weekend. It was good to see college girl and my friends.

Met up with my road trip friend on Monday morning and we made the long trek back home. Chatting about our weekend with our daughters and I stitched away on the Verna binding. When both were finished I got them washed and dried.


Hubby was completely floored when I told him the Verna quilt was for his mother for Mother's Day. He had no idea I was even making it! I think it is just hard to distinquish one project from another when he walks into my sewing room.



I have still sewed SOMETHING everyday. Once the runner and quilt were done I went back to the POSH quilt binding. I am ALMOST done with that, hopefully tonight after the VBS meeting that I need to attend.

I also have a purse cut out and fabric for three children's aprons ready to cut out. I've gotta get busy!

Praise - for the wonderful time spent with college girl and friends and the safe travels.

Prayers - for the preparations and the first meeting for VBS.

4/22 Biology & Binding

I'll try to be brief, I have lots to do still - finish with the Blush binding, get thread,needles,scissors together, finish bagging up my work and PACK!! I'm leaving about 6:30 IN THE MORNING! I should get to bed a bit earlier tonight than I usually do.
So today my son did his frog dissection for Biology;



I am not fond of frogs so I say YEAH for frog dissection - one less live frog in the pond. ;)

Then I got the Verna binding on. All glued and ready for the road trip;


The Blush binding is almost done too;


I won't be able to post until Monday night but I will take pictures and I plan to sew each day on the bindings - even if it is just a little bit on Saturday and Sunday and the bulk of it is done in the car on Friday and Monday. It is the only way I can sew every day this month since this trip was not part of the plan.

I'm so excited to get to go and see college girl, stay with my friends and spend lots of car time with another friend. 'See' you all on Monday!!

Praise - that this trip is even possible, what a gift from God it was - perfect timing!

Prayers - for safe travel and that my time with college girl and friends would glorify the Lord. That hubby and my son would do well without me here.

4/21 So I'm a little biased

I just love striped binding on the bias. I learned to make my own bias binding from a lady in a LQS who gave me a printout and then proceeded to explain it me. She sent me on my way with her phone number in case I had any questions. Today I went looking for that printout and it wasn't where I thought it was. I was a little bit panicked. I knew I could probably find the information online but that printout has all these different calculations for different width bias tapes and how big your original square of fabric would need to be. Found the printout, breathed a sigh of relief and then set to work. This binding is for the Verna quilt and I hope to get it attached to the quilt tomorrow.
Fabric sewn in the tube and I have begun to cut the strips;

one continuous long bias strip;

all starched and ironed in half;

don't you just love freshly made bias binding all rolled up? Yeah, me too.

There is a pretty good tutorial for this method here. I didn't read all the details but the photos are good and might make the directions easy to follow.

Praise - for an opportunity to serve our church body this evening by priming the newly textured walls. I love when a group gets together to work on a project.

Prayers - for an online friend's young cousin who is undergoing radiation treatments for cancer. That she would deal with the treatments well and be cancer free soon.

4/20 Back to POSH

I am working on hand sewing the binding now;

and may be for a few nights.

Praise - for my hubby. He is such a Godly man and always striving to grow.

Prayers - for my hubby. That he will continue to seek God's will for his life, that he will continue to be a Godly example for me and the kids and that his life would glorify the Lord.

4/19 April Tag & a little sewing

This month Joan is asking a few questions about our magazine preferences for the Charming Girls Quilt Club April Tag.

1.which magazines do I prefer???
Here are just a few from my collection;

Funny how those I chose were all in the orange/yellow colorway and then my lighting didn't help matters much. I don't subscribe to the magazines because I like to look through them first to see if there is anything I would make. If I were to subscribe to one it would be the Quilts and More most likely.

2. have I made any projects from the magazines?
3. would I show them?
College girl saw this quilt while I was flipping through the magazine and fell in love with it.


So I made it with almost the exact same fabrics. This was her freshman year of college quilt;


Then I made a purse following these directions;

College girl picked the fabrics out for this one. She likes it but really prefers a bigger bag.


Another bag that I made;


I made this for an auction. The checkbook cover was made using a tutorial found at Crazymomquilts(did you hear she is coming back???!!)


Finally, I did get a little sewing done this evening - very little.

The binding for the Blush table runner. I need to finish getting the POSH binding glued to the back of the quilt so that I can get to stitching that at home and I need to get the Blush binding attached so that I can take that with me on Friday. Possibly the Verna quilt will go along with me as well.

I vacuumed my sewing room today which has to be done with the hose attachment because there was SO much thread on the floor it would just get tangled in the beater brush. Well it looked so good when I was finished that I decided to clean off my sewing tables as well as my cutting table. They were quite the mess and it took me a couple of hours but it looks so much better now. I just smile every time I walk into the room. I kind of don't want to mess it up by sewing!! That won't last long though. :) Hubby walked in, noticed right away and was surprised. I had to have my son take a look around and be more observant, he then asked when I was going to clean off the scrapbooking side of the room. **rolling my eyes**
