February Friday Night Sew-In

I hope to be sewing with over 100 others at Handmade by Heidi this Friday night.


I am not positive what I will be working on quite yet but I have a few choices;
*something using VERNA by Kate Spain - LOVE THIS! I could make a purse, or a baby quilt or a larger quilt.

*one of the baby boy quilts I want to make - either using ALL STAR or WHEELS, both by Riley Blake.

*a tablerunner using some Arcadia scraps I have.

*a string block - I've never tried one but I want to.

Praises - college girl had safe travels to and from Chicago and had a great time there, even though it was REALLY cold. That hubby and son's vball team WON all of their games tonight!

Prayers - for the couple looking at our property and that we would know what we need to know if they do make an offer.

She was right - again!

Is she always right? Dunno. Her sister, Corrie might be able to verify that but until then I am going to trust her on these big decisions. You know, hand stitching and good shows to watch.

Des mentioned this show on her blog back in January. I suggested it to my hubby and son right away as something to watch when we finish with The West Wing. My son didn't want to start anything new until after we were finished with The West Wing. Okay, fine. But then we had to get the final season of TWW from Netflix and not from the library so that meant days in between discs. What oh what could we possibly do on those show-less nights?? Read a book? Study? Don't be silly! My son suggested we watch ONE of the Robin Hood episodes. Just one MOM!

We finished season 1 of Robin Hood last night.Mind you, we are not finished watching The West Wing final season as we are waiting for Netflix to send the next disc. Robin Hood is a great fill in since Season 1 and 2 are on Netflix Instant Play.

The show is fun and witty. I love Robin and the gang and Marian, hate the sheriff and Guy of Gisborn (yuck) and I think that is exactly how it is supposed to be. I'm pretty sure that the sheriff was wearing Birkenstock sandals in the episode we watched last night. The other night the guys had on shirts that had ribbing at the neck and another guy had on camo pants with belt loops and buttoned back pockets. His belt would not have been found in that time period either. Instead of ruining the show we find it kind of humorous. There is quite a bit of fighting, torture and killing as would be expected but it might not be suitable for young viewers.

We are disappointed that there are only three seasons total and that the show was cancelled after that. Maybe Des will find something else for us to watch.

Secret project revealed

This is the project that I couldn't talk about before. A simple scarf from woven fabric, for college girl for Valentine's Day. I used the tutorial at Cluck Cluck Sew. She already received it in the mail and says she loves it!

Maybe she will send a picture of herself wearing it.

I am now working on the black & white damask apron. Just on the cutting out phase. I forgot to get white ric-rac when I was in town yesterday so hopefully my son will get some tonight after his class and I can move forward.

Praise - my son got an acceptance email and letter in the real mail to the college of his choice!

Prayers - for all the paperwork and finances to come together for my son's college education. Always a stressful time.

Progress Report

Three of my February projects are FINISHED! Not having a lovely model here is frustrating, you'll have to use your imagination.

Hello Kitty apron and potholder. I realize the photo isn't great but how am I going to take a picture of a teeny apron with no model? I just love how it came out though and I had just enough ric rac to frame the skirt.

I used Meg's tutorial for the Montessori Child's Apron at her blog, Sew Liberated.

A picture of the other project has been sent to Kelly.

February projects

I have two weeks to meet my work quota and I have it almost all done in ONE week. You know what that means?? I get to sew this coming week! SWEET!!

Besides the Hello Kitty apron that I talked about in the previous post, my plan is to make an apron TODAY using this fabric;

I am going to use Jona's tutorial. This is for a friend that I pretty much only see at church and tomorrow is her birthday. Just noticed that the colors look really washed out. I took the photo outside without flash so I'm not sure what that is all about.

Then this black and white fabric is for an apron and potholder for MY neice. Her 20th birthday is in March. She saw this fabric in a JoAnn's ad and fell in love with it. I hope it is a big surprise since she never told me about it. She told her mom and her mom (my sister) told me.

I'm not sure which pattern I will use yet.

So the three aprons and MAYBE a Riley Blake fabric quilt top. We shall see. I'm hoping I can get more done but I would need my computer to be in the shop for that to happen. Off to rip and sew! Oh yeah, I have one more project that I will send the photo off to Joan or Kelly. Rock on, Charming Girls and Guys!

Praise - that my work from home job is going nicely.

Prayers - for my hubby. He is feeling the pressure lately of a car that broke down, a leak from upstairs through the celing of this room,and little time to fix things.

First February Fabric Friday

New month and new logo for the Charming Girls (and now guys) Quilt Club!


First of all here are the potholders that I sent off yesterday to help raise some money for my friend's Relay for Life team. All Valentine themed so I hope she can sell those this coming week.

The same friend had this sent to me to make an apron for her niece. Isn't it soooo cute?
So that is ONE project for February.

This fabric arrived today. I am going to make a baby boy quilt with it. Not sure if that will get done this month or not.

It is the All Star Collection by Riley Blake and My Mind's Eye. This was a line of scrapbook paper before it became a fabric line.

All of a sudden our church has 5 pregnant young moms and the pastor's daughter in law who attends a church a few miles away is also pregnant! So far we have two girls and one boy on the way. The other three won't be finding out ahead of time.

I have some other projects for February so I hope to get photos and post those on Saturday.

Praise - that college girl made it through mid-terms with great scores.

Prayers - for those in the east that are dealing with all that snow that they don't know what to do with.

There oughta be a law!

I really don't think young children should be able to apply for college! This photo of my son was taken just yesterday.

(well it seems it was taken just yesterday)

Does this look like someone who should be applying to college? Is there some petition I can start or sign to prevent this? He told me just yesterday he was going to live at home forever and drive a dump truck.

Sigh...

Praise - that my son finally did apply! He had been dragging his feet.

Prayers - that my son would be accepted to his college of choice.
